The Department of Mechanical Engineering opened in the year 2006 and students were admitted in the academic year 2006-2007. The department aims to prepare specialized engineering cadres to meet the community’s need to actively contribute to the implementation of development and reconstruction plans projects in the country. The department awards a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering for initial studies, and postgraduate master’s studies in the field of energy generation were introduced in the 2013-2014 academic year, and then the air conditioning and freezing specialization was introduced in the 2016-2017 academic year for master’s studies as well. The department also contains many teaching staff. And engineers, technical and administrative personnel .. And the department contains (8) laboratory in various engineering specialties and meets the needs of all academic levels.

Striving for outstanding in education, entrepreneurship and innovation aiming toward a global knowledge hub. Providing high-quality education that creates well-qualified graduates with the capabilities to meet the needs of society and contend with future challenges.

Message

The mission of mechanical engineering department has three tends: to achieve the best service related to mechanical engineering leading to a comprehensive understanding in mechanical engineering’s science and technology according to the standards of the quality management; graduating well-qualified and innovative mechanical engineers who can significantly contribute to their career and  successful in advanced studies; achieving excellence in continuous development and  scientific research to provide leadership and innovative solutions to technological challenges.

Department Objectives:

The formulation of the Vision and Mission mentioned above are translated into the objectives of the Mechanical Engineering Department as follows:

    1. To become a reliable department of international standards.
    2. To maintain a high standard of mechanical engineering education through outstanding teaching, innovation, research and training that reflect the changing needs of society.
    3. To Produce competent graduates in the field of mechanical engineering capable of build up their careers upon a solid foundation of knowledge.
    4. To increase the number of membership of professional bodies in Mechanical Engineering and develop them.
    5. To have frequent interaction program with standard domain Industries.
    6. To pursue excellence in research and technology transfer, especially those based on appropriate technology to improve the quality of people’s lives.
    7. To produce community service activities that are recognized at the national level to improve the quality of people’s lives.
    8. To increase the public awareness of departmental activities and the Mechanical Engineering profession.
    9. To attract highly motivated students with enthusiasm, aptitude and interest in mechanical engineering.

Graduates Outcomes (GOs):

Graduates of the Mechanical Engineering Program at Wasit University will be prepared to contribute effectively as engineers in a diverse and multidisciplinary work environment. In their careers, our graduates will have Compulsory Graduate Outcomes (CGOs) and Adopt Graduated Outcomes (AGOs).

 

  • Compulsory Graduate Outcomes (CGOs):
  1. The ability to distinguish, identify, define and solve engineering problems through concepts of engineering, science and mathematics.
  2. The ability to produce engineering designs that fulfill the required needs within certain limits through processes of analysis and assembly in engineering design.
  3. The ability to create and conducting measurements and appropriate tests with quality assurance, analyzing and explaining results, and the ability to make engineering decisions based on the obtained results.
  4. The ability of oral and written communication with a group of people and editing them at various administrative levels and for various purposes.
  5. The ability to realize of moral and career awareness in engineering issues and making the right decisions considering its consequences in the global financial, environmental and societal levels.
  6. The ability to realize to continue self-development of professional knowledge, and how to find and evaluate it and conducting in the right way.
  7. The ability of efficient team work, identifying aims and planning for activities and meeting deadlines and manage risk.

 

  • Adopted Graduated Outcomes (AGOs):
  1. Competency in design and analysis of thermal and fluid systems.
  2. Possessing the skill to apply design concepts for mechanical structures and systems.
  • Ability to design and develop industrial products using modern machines in the field of manufacturing.
  1. Ability to use latest mechanical engineering related software’s for simple design, thermal, fluid, maintenance and manufacturing problems.

Ability to interpret drawing, handbooks, manuals, engineering catalogue, design data book, draw engineering drawings and operate course related machines, devices, instruments and industry relevant software.

The following Program Educational Objectives are established for the Mechanical Engineering:

  • Providing students with strong foundation in mathematical, scientific and mechanical engineering fundamentals that will enable them to have successful career and make positive impacts on society.
  • Response for rapid technological changes, modern engineering tool and build attitude of developing new concepts on emerging trends in mechanical engineering.
  • Awareness of professional ethics, effective workplace skills, effective technical and non-technical communication skills and teamwork skills.
  • Engagement in professional or civic communities as a leader with a strong sense of responsibility.
  • Evaluate the importance of strengthening,  expanding and enhancing their knowledge and skills through self-learning, professional development opportunities and pursuing  higher education to advance their careers, personal interests and life goals.
  • Understanding the impact of the engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context.

For 2021, the number of students are 111 for first class, 53 for the second class,  41 for third class, and 63 for fourth class.

As part of the Bsc degree, a final year project should be conducted and submitted to the College of Engineering.

Due to the pandemic of COVID19, the mechanical engineering department double their efforts for providing the video lectures to their students and all other students who knows Arabic. These video lectures are arranged according to the classes they belong to. Please follow the link in below.

There were 435 graduated students from the mechanical department during the last 13 years (2009-2022). The figure below shows the number of graduate students per year.
